AUSTIN - Sunday wraps up one of the busiest travel weeks of the year, according to AAA.
Those with AAA predicted more than 50 million Americans would travel in 2017 for Thanksgiving.
They expected travelers to experience the highest Thanksgiving travel volume since 2005 with 1.6 million more people traveling than in 2016.
People arriving at the Austin–Bergstrom International Airport on Sunday said getting to their destinations earlier in the week was tougher than getting home.
“It was a really busy day, but I feel like, for the most part, everything went really smoothly,” said Cameron Kainer, who was traveling with two toddlers. “We always travel around the holidays with kids, and it's hard. But, I feel like everything went about as smoothly as it could.”
Other people heading home on Sunday said the Austin airport was a breeze to get through, noting other airports earlier in the day seemed more crowded.
