TRAVIS COUNTY - Thousands of low-income children may go without presents this Christmas if the Brown Santa program doesn't get a warehouse soon.
The Travis County Sheriff's Office's Brown Santa has been providing gifts to underprivileged children and meals for families for the holidays since 1981, according to its website. However, if organizers don't find a warehouse by the end of the month, it will be the first time Brown Santa is canceled.
That's two thousand families affected.
"That means the families that are counting on the gifts, these are the less fortunate ones for whatever the circumstances, from jobs to whatever they have going on, plus seniors that we service out in the communities, then there will be no gifts or food," said Detective Mary Rodriguez, chairman of Brown Santa.
Rodriguez said the warehouse needs to be at least 23,000 square feet and has ports. Call 512-247-2682 if you would like to help.
