Bicyclist killed in Saturday morning crash identified

AUSTIN - The bicyclist killed in a crash with a vehicle Saturday morning in Southwest Austin has been identified.

Austin-Travis County EMS said that the crash happened around 7:20 a.m.

APD said the bicyclist, identified as 34-year-old Joseph Patrick Daniels,was traveling westbound in the outside lane of the 5200 block of the U.S. Highway 290 West service road when a vehicle hit him from behind. The roadway was dark and dimly lit at the time of the crash, APD said.

Medics pronounced Daniels dead at the scene.

This is Austin's 60th fatal traffic crash and 61st fatality of 2016. There were 85 traffic fatalities in Austin at this time in 2015.
