Baylor University under federal Title IX investigation

The Office for Civil Rights opened a Title IX investigation at Baylor University after a complaint was filed by the former Baylor Title IX coordinator, Patty Crawford.

The U.S. Department of Education said that the open investigation does not mean that OCR made a determination either way in the case, but that they will be collecting and analyzing evidence. The public will be notified once the investigation has concluded.

Crawford resigned from her position as Title IX coordinator earlier this month. She accused the university of "retaliating against her for trying to follow Title IX," according to her lawyer, Rogge Dunn.

Baylor has been in the midst of a months-long scandal resulting from a number of sexual assaults on campus and the administration's failure to properly handle those cases.

In November 2015, the university hired an outside law firm, Pepper Hamilton, to investigate their handling of sexual assault cases. The investigation determined a "fundamental failure" to implement Title IX guidelines. Baylor released the law firm's recommendations in a "findings of fact."
