BASTROP COUNTY, TEXAS - With Halloween approaching in the next few weeks, The Bastrop County Sheriff's Office is planning to keep children's safety a top priority as they go door to door to trick-or-treat
The Sheriff's Office said Thursday they will conduct an "Operation Lights Out" initiative Halloween night geared at registered sex offenders on parole or on probation.
Deputies said they will check the sex offenders' residences to confirm they're at home with their porch lights turned off. Otherwise, they could be seen as purposely attracting trick-or-treaters.
Violations could result in parole or probation revocation, the Sheriff's Office confirmed.
