Austin's first community for artists to live and work is now officially open.
The Print Press sits off Cesar Chavez in East Austin.
"We really are focused on trying to get a variety of artists," developer Bree Carico said.
Carico is the brains behind the Print Press. After officially opening this week, she's now trying to bring in artists.
Their monthly rent will give them access to this studio space and they can live in the homes behind it.
"Rooms in the homes are rented per room," Carico said.
Carico said rent is very reasonable.
"We are able to keep the rates rather low relative to other properties nearby," Carico said.
In an effort to preserve the existing east Austin infrastructure, she didn't change a lot about the homes.
"Just brought them up to code and made them more comfortable living spaces," she said.
There's no shortage of bright, bold paintings, interesting designs and coffee. So far, artists are enjoying the creative community.
