Austinites plan to break Guinness World Record for spooning

AUSTIN - Forever trying to keep their city weird, Austinites plan to break the Guinness World Record for the most people spooning each other at one time.

According to an event page, the attempt is planned for Saturday, February 4 in front of the Texas Capitol Building. On their Facebook page, the group said that they are still waiting for Guinness to accept their application.

Over 4,800 people have shown interest in participating on the Facebook page.

The current record of 1,108 people was achieved by the Australian Medical Students' Association in Queensland Australia on July 10, 2013.

Austin is home to a couple of other weird Guinness World Record holders: Creme Puff, the world's oldest cat (38 years and 3 days old), and Ivan Zoot, who gave the most haircuts in one hour (34).
