Appeals court temporarily halts Ken Paxton's criminal case

TEXAS - A state appeals court has temporarily halted Attorney General Ken Paxton's criminal case while it considers his request to oust his judge, according to KVUE's news partners at the Austin American-Statesman.

The order from the 5th Court of Appeals cancels a hearing scheduled for Thursday on a separate request of Paxton's to remove state District Judge George Gallagher.

Paxton is accused of misleading investors in a company from before his time as attorney general. Paxton, who has pleaded not guilty, could face up to 99 years in prison if he's convicted.
