KILLEEN - The Killeen Police Department has identified one of the suspects from an aggravated robbery of a jewelry business in North Austin on Nov. 25.
Officials said Deon Lashawn Clay, 26, and another person entered the jewelry store along the 6300 block of North Interstate 35, pointed a semi-automatic handgun at employees, and demanded money and jewelry. Clay and the other person allegedly fled on foot, and last seen walking eastbound from I-35 and U.S. Highway 290.
Killeen police said they were able to identify Clay after he allegedly tried to pawn some of the jewelry in Killeen on Nov. 30. Police attempted to arrest Clay on Dec. 1, but police say he was able to escape. Online records at the Bell County Jail state he was booked Dec. 3 on charges of aggravated robbery and evading arrest. A female associate of Clay's told police he had given her a "unique bracelet," which was traced back to the Nov. 25 robbery.
The second suspect has not been identified as of Monday afternoon. Anyone with information on the Nov. 25 robbery is asked to call the APD Robbery Tip Line at 512-974-5092, or Crime Stoppers at 512-472-TIPS. Clay is being held in the Bell County Jail on combined $295,000 bond.
