Officer suspended for using Taser on handcuffed man

AUSTIN - An Austin police officer suspended for 20 days after improperly using her Taser on a man did so on the same suspect who was pepper sprayed in the face by another officer in a high-profile case caught on camera.

KVUE News and the Austin American-Statesman have learned Officer Vanessa Jimenez used her Taser on the man, who was visiting from Chicago, minutes before Officer Cameron Caldwell used pepper spray on the man. The man was restrained at the time of both incidents.

Cameron is serving a 45-day suspension for that use of force. Officials also confirm that two other supervisors on duty at the time of both incidents are under investigation by internal affairs into how they reviewed the incident.

The case happened in March, near the end of SXSW. The Peaceful Streets Project captured the pepper spray incident on camera, which prompted police to review the actions of all officers in the incident.
