APD officer suspended for lying to investigators

AUSTIN – Interim Austin Police Chief Brian Manley has suspended one of his officers 90 days for providing misleading statements to internal affairs investigators.

According to a disciplinary memo filed Sept. 19, Officer Blaine Eiben’s suspension began Wednesday and will run through Dec. 19. The memo stated Eiben had been interviewed by internal affairs investigators regarding his conduct at his work station, Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.

The memo did not describe the conduct, nor did it provide dates for the conduct, investigation or interview. Eiben admitted to lying to investigators and apologized to his chain of command during a disciplinary hearing, the memo said. It also noted that Eiben indicated “he was impacted by extenuating health circumstances,” and that command staff “gave considerable consideration” to it.
