Accused UT stabber's family: We're doing everything to understand son's mental health

AUSTIN - Two days after a student was killed and multiple others were injured in a knife attack at the center of the University of Texas campus, the family of the suspect are breaking their silence.

The attorney for the family of Kendrex White, 21, released the following statement:

“The White family would like to express their deepest condolences to all those involved in the events on Monday, especially the victims, their families, the students, and all those affected within the University of Texas community.

News of this tragic event came as an unfathomable shock to the White family, and they are doing everything possible to understand the state of their son’s mental health leading up to and during the tragedy that has occurred.

The White family, along with the rest of our nation, grieves for the young lives that have been affected and changed forever this week."

On May 1, Harrison Brown, 19, was killed after being stabbed allegedly by White. Three other people were hospitalized. White was arrested and charged with murder.

In an affidavit released Wednesday, White told police he had no recollection of attacking anyone.

"If I did something I don't remember then I want to be told," according to the affidavit.

White is being held on a $1 million bond.
