A nontraditional Thanksgiving in Austin

Many people have the day off to spend with family and friends.

Some snap photos with friends, while others are in awe of history.

These are things you usually see at the Texas State Capital on a normal day.

However it's Thanksgiving!

Instead of preparing food or getting ready to eat around the dinner table, Rubye Beal wanted to enjoy the sights and sounds of the city.

"I think it's awesome to see this many people out enjoying the scenery," Beal said.

The crowds were not just at the Capital, Zilker Park was also the place to be for families.

KVUE caught up with Alan Pattie and his wife June during their picnic lunch.

"All of our family is out of town and we just decided to have it with our little pups here," Pattie said.

Something different that mission was accomplished.

Everyone we spoke to said they have a lot to be thankful for, not just on Thanksgiving but every day!
