Woman sexually assaulted while stopped at intersection

AUSTIN -- Police are searching for a man they say sexually assaulted a woman in South Austin while she was in her car at an intersection.

The incident happened before 7 a.m. Friday in a neighborhood of West William Cannon Drive at Blarwood Drive and Cockburn Drive.

Police say the victim was driving her car and stopped at an intersection when a man came up to her and started a conversation. He then sexually assaulted her and left the scene by foot.

Senior Austin Police Department Officer Veneza Bremner told KVUE that a woman called police saying she had been assaulted. Paramedics then took her to a local hospital.

"Obviously we're interviewing any potential witnesses. We've been interviewing the victim and anybody that might have any other information that might assist us in trying to fully investigate this incident," APD Detective Michael Crumrine said.

Police describe the suspect as a black or Hispanic man in his 20s. He is 5'6" to 5'8" with an average build, weighing 180 to 190 pounds. He is believed to have black short hair which he covered with a hood or cap.

He was last seen wearing a dark blue thermal shirt, jeans and white tennis shoes.
