AUSTIN -- Friday marks one year in operation for the W Hotel in downtown Austin.
The hotel opened Dec. 9, 2010, at the corner of 2nd Street and Lavaca.
In February of this year, the hotel's Moody Theater became the new home of Austin City Limits Live. Then in May, President Barack Obama took that same stage for a campaign and fundraising speech.
Those highs haven't come without lows though, in June the hotel was plagued by falling glass, as balcony window panes crashed to the ground below. The hotel had to shut down for days as crews replaced every pane of balcony glass.
Then more good news for the hotel came in November when the W won the Austin Chronicle's "Best of Austin" award for best building and best bathroom.
Starting Friday, the hotel has a series of events and specials planned to celebrate its one year anniversary.
