AUSTIN -- This week, the University of Texas launched a website called "seekUT" to help students with financial planning after graduation.
On the site, students can select their major, pick which of the 15 UT campuses they are attending and select their field of interest to discover the first year average salary, the fifth year average salary and the average student loan for recent graduates with the same major from the same school.
"First year, I have $32,523," said physical therapist major Daren Simmons. "And then, the fifth year, I'm going to have $58,558 and student loans about $20,428."
"The first year is $69,188," said mechanical engineering student Eric Uchoa. "Student loans [are] only $20,593."
So, is it all about the money? It depends on who you ask.
"Money is not the most important thing for me, but it definitely encourages me, because it's a lot of money," said petroleum engineering student Zhi Hen Gao.
The site collects the salary and student loan data from UT graduates between 2007 and 2011 that are working in Texas.
The university said the goal is to let students make more informed decisions about their careers.
