A researcher with the University of Texas has found there really is a difference between dog people and cat people.

People have connected certain personality traits with favored pets for decades.  But until now, studies haven't been able to find evidence of a connection.

Sam Gosling, a professor at the University of Texas, gave personality tests to more than 4,000 people.  Gosling found those who called themselves dog people were more extroverted, more agreeable, and more conscientious.  Self-described cat people were more neurotic, but they were also more open.

Nearly half of those questioned called themselves dog people, 12% favored cats and the rest were both or neither.
