AUSTIN – Police on the University of Texas campus said they do not expect to arrest nor charge a male student detained after he was reportedly seen running across campus with a shotgun and a gas mask.
Several people called 911 after seeing the man in the Guadalupe and 24th Street area around 3:59 p.m. Friday.
Campus police encountered the man at 4:11 p.m. at the Caven Lacrosse and Sports Center near Clark Field on the UT campus.
A further investigation revealed the weapon wasn’t real.
According to UTPD, what was believed to be a shotgun was actually a red, plastic training weapon, however, it isn’t clear why the student had it.
It’s now up the UT administrators to determine what if any further action will be taken.
