AUSTIN -- Two more Travis County residents have died from West Nile virus.

The Austin/Travis County Health and Human Services Department says the two victims matched the Center for Disease Control's profile for those highest at risk; they were over 50 years of age.

One of the two victims died on Oct. 31 and the second died Nov. 6. They both became sick with the virus in September.

Since July, the health and human services department has investigated 142 reported, confirmed and probable cases of West Nile. That number includes the most recently reported deaths. So far this year, Travis County has confirmed five deaths attributed to the virus.

The health and human services department says recent cooler weather has led to a significant decrease in mosquito activity. The last onset of human illness was reported on Oct. 10.
