AUSTIN -- A new parking plan has been announced for the Trail of Lights.
The City of Austin and Trail of Lights Foundation said Thursday that they have come up with a parking plan aimed to ease traffic at Zilker Park during the annual holiday tradition.
“The Trail of Lights is Austin’s favorite holiday celebration, and we are working to make sure everyone who attends the Trail arrives safely, conveniently and has an enjoyable experience,” said Mayor Lee Leffingwell. “As Austin continues to grow, so does the demand for activities like the Trail of Lights at Zilker Park. Thus the city is creating and adopting new methods to ensure that Zilker Park event-goers have plenty of transportation options available.”
Trail of Lights Foundation board president and deputy executive director of the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority Mario Espinoza said the less than 1,000 parking spaces within Zilker Park will be given to people who have paid for a space in advance online. No cash parking will be available.
If you do not buy a parking pass in advance, you will have to use a shuttle or other means of transportation to Zilker Park.

The Trail of Lights will be held in Zilker Park Dec. 8-22.
