AUSTIN -- There's nothing idle about March in Austin. From South by Southwest to actual NCAA March Madness games, you wouldn't expect this special event city to wrap up the month without a roar.
Thursday through Saturday, the Texas Relays are underway at Mike Myers Stadium.
More than 2,000 college and university athletes, plus 4,000 high school participants will compete in the 86th Texas Relays. They're not just from Texas. Various states and countries are represented.
This is the ninth year Tony and Wanda Adekoya from Missouri City have cheered on a daughter at Texas Relays.
"If you are a track and field enthusiast, you are going to really enjoy it. The competition is awesome," Tony said.
Though the stands weren't packed Thursday morning, the stadium is expected to fill to its 20,000 capacity Friday and Saturday.
Tony and Wanda Adekoya say they like to eat at all of the good restaurants while they are in Austin and shop.
Along with the Austin Urban Music Festival, Friday and Saturday night at Auditorium Shores Austin are expected to draw 45,000, generating more than $8 million for the economy.
An hour after the Texas Relays end Saturday, the University of Texas Orange-White Scrimmage begins at 6:30 p.m. Though prior, you can meet the 2013 team at the Stadium Stampede. Click here for more information.
