AUSTIN -- Two teenagers have been arrested for a string of burglaries around the Austin area.
According to an arrest affidavit Cristal Gomez, 17, and Kayla Wright, 19, are charged with Burglary of a Habitation and are being held on a $30,000 bond each.
The affidavit states that on Aug. 6, a couple living on Creston Lane came home to find their bedroom window had been broken. Several items, including a 42" TV and a Microsoft Xbox, were missing.
Neighbors told police that a Hispanic female driving a red car had knocked on their door around noon that day, asking for a woman who doesn't live there. A witness recognized the woman as Gomez, who is known to hang out with Wright and "steal things."
Police had already been investigating Gomez and Wright for more than two months and believe they are responsible for more than 20 residential burglaries in Austin. At least eight of those took place within a one-mile radius of the home on Creston Lane. Police say a red Dodge Avenger has been seen at each burglary.
On Oct. 24 the women were arrested for a separate burglary offense. Both confessed to the crimes and told police where they could find the stolen property. Police tracked those items through a pawn shop and search warrants of the girls' homes.
