SAN MARCOS, Texas -- A tanker truck accident Thursday morning shut down a highway in eastern Hays County. The eastbound lane of the highway was reopened to traffic just before 7 p.m.
According to the Texas Department of Transportation, a tanker truck carrying fuel overturned.
The Hays County Fire Marshal says Highway 21, north of High Road, has been closed in both directions.
As of 5 p.m., a second tanker truck had finished transferring the fuel.
TxDOT estimated that the eastbound lane of the two-lane highway would be opened by 6 p.m., while crews continued to work on the westbound lane. TxDOT has not given an estimate on when the clean-up will be completed.
The Department of Public Safety is investigating, along with local fire departments and hazmat crews.
Drivers are asked to avoid the area.
