TED is a nonprofit that was created in 1984 and is devoted to "ideas worth spreading."

The conference began by bringing people together from the fields of Techonology, Entertainment, and Design (thus, "TED").

Now TED has expanded beyond its annual conferences in Long Beach/Palm Springs and Edinburgh to local, self-organized events in cities around the globe. Austin is one of those cities, and will host its third annual TEDx event February 11, 2012 at Austin Music Hall.

During the day-long TEDxAustin event, 12 to 14 people from all walks of life will speak about their lives, their passions, their careers and more for 18 minutes or less.

Nancy Giordano, the spokesperson for TEDxAustin, sat down with KVUE.com's Online Correspondent Rebekah Hood to talk about what we can expect from TEDxAustin: Beyond Measure.

Appilcations to attend the event went live online last week. To apply or learn more about TEDxAustin, click here.
