AUSTIN -- The Texas Civil Rights Project is calling for the creation of a foundation to help raise money and resources to Austin schools with high numbers of low-income and minority students.

The group held a news conference Tuesday morning asking the Austin Independent School District take action to address the inequalities among its schools.

"We've been talking about this for decades, and it was time to take action, to demand action, and I think AISD can do something right away," said parent Laura Arbilla.

The AISD released a statement in response saying in part, "For years, this district has devoted itself to figuring out how to address the immense challenges that comes with socioeconomic inequities."
