AUSTIN -- A 19-year-old was charged with criminal mischief after causing more than $30,000 in damages at a dorm near the University of Texas.
According to the arrest affidavit, a security guard saw Andrew Russell and another resident knock over trash cans before entering the building early Friday morning. The guard also saw Russell punching ceiling tiles inside.
A broken sprinkler head in the hallway near Russell's room released thousands of gallons of water damaging the first four floors.
Russell later told an investigator he had just "touched" the sprinkler head and it "just went off."
The incident occurred at the University Towers on 24th Street, a private dorm near UT.
The damages do not include any property damaged in other people's rooms.
