The state's 911 system could be getting a makeover. Emergency officials say it's becoming outdated.
State officials say the problem with the current 911 system is that it can not keep up with growing technologies.

Next Generation 911 is desgined to give people a choice between the different forms of communication technology. For example, reaching 911 through text.
While the details have not been worked out, these are the goals of the summit and what leaders are planning to work on Thursday. Ultimately they are looking to provide emergency reponders with more information and give it to them faster to improve overall response time.
The summit began Thursday morning and lasts throughout the day. It explores national, state and regional efforts that will be required to begin Next Generation 911.
