Can women change politics? KLRU's speaker series, Spark at the Moody Theater, tackles this theme for the Jan. 31 show about Gov. Ann Richards.
Richards had a lasting impact on the nation's political landscape.
"While Ann Richards was governor, she brought a lot of people into state government who were not part of government beforehand," said University of Texas Documentarian Paul Stekler. "She really opened the process and set a trend her male predecessors followed."
Stekler, actress Holland Taylor and Dallas Morning News Reporter Wayne Slater will tell their experiences with Richards, documenting and covering her entire life.
"I think partially its who Ann was, using her as a focus for what differences she made and what she's like, but also what she's done in politics," Stekler said. "Women are just different from men, but that could be another topic. There's a lot more collaboration and a different way of administering and making things happen."
