Residents living at the Harper’s Creek Apartments on E. Oltorf near Parker Lane reacted to a human trafficking arrest at their South Austin apartment complex.

Sylvia Guzman has lived at the complex for three years and is moving out. She says over the last six months crime has gotten progressively worse and more violent. She was shocked something so inhumane could happen so close to home.

“There are a lot of things going on in this area,” said Guzman. “This is probably the scariest thing that I have gone through since I have lived here. To hear people are being kidnapped and held captive here without anyone knowing that is too close to home. That is the scariest part.”

According to an arrest affidavit 39 year old Felix Lugo Medina kidnapped a man from Nuevo Laredo.  He then demanded his family pay ransom or he'd be killed by Zeta Drug Cartel members. The family paid $800, but then Medina demanded another $3400. Police set up a sting arrested Medina. That's when they discovered seven other people being held in the same apartment-- a few doors down from Guzman. Those cases remain under investigation. Medina is charged with one count of aggravated kidnapping.

Guzman moves out on Tuesday.
