The soggy Friday was welcomed by some. Other, couldn't wait for it to stop.
Although some area counties were under a flash flood watch, it looks like the downpours are just what Central Texas needs, especially area lakes.
Rain can keep on coming, as far as LCRA Meteorologist Bob Rose is concerned.
"Based on the rain that has fallen so far, our engineers estimate the level of Lake Travis will rise about a half of foot, maybe a little bit more. And the level of Lake Buchanan will come up one to two tenths of a foot. So not a huge rise on either lake, but that's better than our dry pattern continuing," said Rose.
The rainfall will put a dent in the drought as well. Much of Central Texas is still under either abnormally dry or moderate drought conditions.
Justin Kasulka, a landscape designer for Big Red Sun Nursery on East Cesar Chavez in Austin, said he is glad the drought is finally fading away. The cool damp weather is good for him, the plants and business.
"I'm loving it right now. It's great, we just done a lot of landscape installations. This is really good, for getting things settled in to the ground and getting the plants happy. And just getting a good soaking of some good clean water," said Kasulka.
More good soakings should be in order over the next few months, thanks to El Nino, as a colder and wetter winter is predicted.
Stage two water restrictions, which have been in place since August, will be lifted on Saturday November 21, according to the Austin Water Utility.
Utility officials say the city will return to Stage 1 water restrictions, which are usually in effect from may 1 to September 30.
Under Stage 1, the following restrictions apply:
- Mandatory watering restrictions for commercial and residential
- Commercial and multifamily may water only on Tuesdays & Fridays
- Single family homes have 2 watering days a week
- Odd addresses: Wednesdays and Saturdays
- Even addresses: Thursdays and Sundays
- In all instances no outdoor irrigation is allowed between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.
- Hand watering allowed anytime
