SAN ANTONIO (AP) -- The Scooter Store is notifying 1,800 workers furloughed earlier this month that their jobs are being eliminated.
The San Antonio Express-News reports CEO Martin Landon notified employees by email Tuesday night that layoffs take effect March 31.
He noted the New Braunfels-based seller of motorized wheelchairs and mobility scooters will not close.
Workers were told March 8 of the furlough but about 300 of them were brought back to work last week. Landon has not said how many will remain with the company as it restructures.
About 150 federal agents descended on the headquarters in February in what's believed to be an investigation into Medicare and Medicaid fraud. Authorities have declined to speak about the probe.
The company's been struggling with cuts in reimbursements and changes in federal requirements.
