AUSTIN -- Another day of music is kicking off across downtown Austin.
Bands began unloading their equipment Friday morning. Bars lining East 6th Street are some of the major venues for South by Southwest showcases. Schedules were posted in windows and promoters put up fliers.
“It's kind of mind boggling how much stuff goes on,” said Nic Huber, promoter with The Syndicate. “We were wearing t-shirts. We were giving out free tickets. We were giving out posters, flier guides, just anything that has our campaign on it is pretty much how we're trying to get it out.”
The sounds of SXSW are world known. Bands come in from countries worldwide and so do their fans.
“The whole ‘South by’ experience gets better every single year,” said Huber.
One couple drove up from Mexico overnight to show their love for an Australian group set to perform Friday afternoon.
“We're coming all the way from Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico and we're hoping to see them. We're really excited,” said Jaime Galindo. “We're here only to see the band and then we have to drive back. We got here like two hours ago so right after we see the band we gotta head back.”
With so many visitors in town, emergency services are bracing for another busy day. Austin police are out in full force and Austin/Travis County EMS set up a command station just a block from East 6th Street.
