AUSTIN -- The Austin Police Department’s SWAT team has completed its search for two men, possibly armed, at a movie theater near Pflugerville.

Three employees were cleaning the Tinseltown theater near Interstate 35 and FM 1825 overnight Monday. Around 3:45 a.m. they reported seeing the two men dressed in all black and carrying what they believed were weapons.

The three employees were all together when they say they saw the men in the hallway on the first floor. The employees got out of the theater and called 911.

“We called the SWAT team out. That activated the bomb squad; activated the Air One, the helicopter, as well as other units," said APD Officer Marcus Davis. "Anytime we have a large incident like that we try to bring out everybody, the experts, any type of matter because we don't know what we're faced with.”

APD’s SWAT team began searching the building around 7 a.m. Patrol cars blocked all entrances to the theater’s parking lot. Helicopters and K-9 units were also dispatched.

By 10 a.m. Officer Davis said the SWAT team had cleared about half of the multi-level theater. Officers also reviewed video from the theater’s surveillance system.

Austin police said just after 12:30 p.m. the SWAT team had finished its search. No suspects were found, and employees were allowed to return to nearby businesses.

After a seven-hour search, the theater is open again. Several films scheduled to play earlier Monday morning were canceled.
