ROUND ROCK, Texas (AP) -- The first mayor of Round Rock who spent more than 40 years serving Central Texas residents will be remembered with his name on City Hall.

The Round Rock City Council recently voted to name City Hall for Jack Jordan, who died in 1959. He was 86.

The Austin American-Statesman reported Sunday that Jordan became Round Rock's first mayor in 1913 for one term, then spent 44 years as  city secretary.

Jordan worked as a barrel maker and store manager before becoming mayor. As city secretary he was Round Rock's only employee for years.

Martin Parker, who's written about the history of Round Rock, says as a child he knew Jordan and recalls hearing the man's booming voice as he taught Sunday school.
