Religious leaders of different faiths met Wednesday morning to send a message to lawmakers.

Catholic, Methodist, and Evangelical bishops, along with rabbis and representatives from the Episcopal Diocese, will come together at First United Methodist Church in downtown Austin.

The group hopes their team effort and the sheer number of supporters expected with them will help send their message to lawmakers. They are worried about the impact more than 60 anti-immigration bills will have on immigrant families.

One such bill would require local authorities to enforce federal immigration laws. Another would require schools and government agencies to verify a person's immigration status. Others would restrict social services and higher education.

The religious leaders are joining with the Austin Interfaith group. They want the debate on these bills to remain civil. They are speaking out on behalf of the families who will be affected, should these bills pass.

The Austin Interfaith group met at 10:30 a.m.
