AUSTIN -- Heavy rains have caused multiple road closures, water rescues and evacuations and school delays for much of Central Texas.
The Austin Fire Department reports its crews went to 81 flood-related incidents in Travis County from midnight to 8 a.m. Thursday. They were called to 32 water rescues, one fire from lightning and 46 flood assists.
Overnight EMS crews worked to rescue a woman on Spicewood Springs after going into labor. Several residents in Pflugerville were evacuated because of their homes flooding.
Austin EOC reports 500 to 600 homes were directly impacted by water.
The American Red Cross of Central Texas has opened several shelters for displaced residents in Travis, Williamson and Hays counties. Go here for their locations.
At 3:45 p.m. Thursday about 4,000 customers were without power according to Austin Energy. Check out Austin Energy's power outage map here.

The Austin School District has closed Perez Elementary for the day. Power outages have forced Palm Elementary to be closed. Staff will remain at the school with students. Parents can either pick them up now or at normal dismissal time. Buses are running for students who wish to take them. After school programs and tutoring have been canceled. Blazier Elementary is still open but has suffered power outages as well. Parents can pick up their kids now if they want to. Staff members will stay at the school until the end of the day. Buses are still running.
