MANOR, Texas – All the buzz at the 290 Café in Manor Wednesday wasn’t about the chicken fried steak nor the tempting desserts, for a change instead, most customers were talking about the presidential visit scheduled for Thursday.
“I'm hoping to see him, maybe get a picture with him but I just want to hear what he says because it's a moment that we'll really never have again,” said Pete Stone, a waiter at 290 Café who is also a student at Manor New Tech, the school President Barack Obama will be visiting Thursday afternoon.
The White House told KVUE that the president chose Manor High Tech because they teach real life skills which will help people get jobs in the high tech industry.
Manor New Tech is one of two high schools in the city.
Some students at Manor High School across town told us they feel a little slighted that the nation’s leader will miss them Thursday.
“It's kind of a bit of jealousy you can definitely tell around school you know because they're not sending anyone towards us,” said Manor High School student Zach Cronk.
“I tweeted him saying 'Why are you going to New Tech and not to Manor or could you just come to Manor 'cause it's like close,'” said Anthony Martinez, another Manor High School student.
The president will stop by Applied Materials also on Highway 290 before heading back to Washington D.C.
