AUSTIN -- Austin police are asking for the public's help to identify a man who was found dead on the side of Highway 183.

Officers were called out to the southbound lanes of Highway 183 at McKinney Falls Parkway near Austin-Bergstrom International Airport around 7:40 Saturday morning.

"A passerby was driving home from work and saw what they thought to be a person, which was a person, who was found deceased on the side of the highway," said APD Corporal Ken McDonnell.

McDonnel says the person, a Hispanic man about 25-35 years old, appeared to have been hit by a car or truck. Investigators found car parts and glass near his body.

The driver did not stop, and there have been no reports of an accident in that area. Officers say they aren't sure how long the man had been there.

The victim did not have an ID on him. He has dark colored hair and a medium build. He was wearing a red plaid shirt, blue jeans and cowboy boots. Police ask anyone who has a missing family member or friend who matches that description or anyone who has information on the accident to call the APD Vehicular Homicide Unit at  512-974-5312.
