Austin police sent out a warning to shoppers Wednesday to be on the lookout for purse snatchers targeting grocery store parking lots around town.
Investigators say there have been five reported cases of purses snatched out of grocery carts while women were loading groceries into their cars. All of the incidents happened during the day in January and February.
None of the women were hurt.
Police say they only have descriptions of vehicles involved in the crimes:
- Black 1999 Mazda Texas LP-BJ2J874
- Black 1996 Acura Texas LP-NJX878
- Red Chevrolet Malibu
Police say women can help prevent the crime by putting their purse in the car before loading groceries. They also say women should not grab for their purse, but to call 911 and financial institutions immediately.
