WIMBERLEY, Texas -- Residents in Wimberley and San Marcos have been evacuated due to heavy rains and flooding.

The San Marcos River rose over several roads, forcing them to close. There were many evacuations along the river.

Heavy rain also caused the Blanco River to crest, and crews had to rescue several people.

The City of Wimberley says the rivers are starting to recede. Certain areas received about 13 inches of rain.

Cypress Creek was over its bank and closed Ranch Road 12 at one point. On Green Acres, high water took out a bridge.

School was canceled in Wimberley.

"We had a heck of a lot of rain tonight, as much as 13 inches," Mayor Bob Flocke said. "The water ways, the Blanco River. They came up out of their banks, and they did a pretty significant amount of damage.
