Pflugerville firefighters are investigating a devastating overnight house fire.

The manufactured home on Tophill Circle and Lazy Ridge Drive is destroyed said Lt. Tim Wallace of Pflugerville Fire Department. The fire leaves a family of 10, including four adults and six children, homeless.

Lt. Wallace says a mother in the house smelled smoke around 2:15 Tuesday morning and rushed to get everyone out and call 911. When firefighters arrived, the fire had already spread throughout the home and to a storage shed on the property.

Heavy winds made it more difficult for crews to get the flames under control. It took 30 to 40 firefighters with Pflugerville FD and Austin FD about an hour and half to knock down the heavy fire.

Crews stayed at the house for several hours afterward, keeping an eye on hot spots.

Firefighters say the home did not have any working smoke detectors. Lt. Wallace says the damage may not have been as extensive had there been detectors inside. Total damages are estimated at $140,000.

Investigators say an electrical problem may have been the cause of the fire.

The American Red Cross is assisting the displaced family.
