One man was rushed to the hospital Tuesday after being shot during an attempted carjacking in Southeast Austin.
It happened just before 6:15 a.m. on FM 1327 -- right under the State Highway 45 tollway overpass.
"He says he was approached by what he said were a couple of males he's been able to give no further description than that, and they attempted to carjack him," said Corporal Scott Perry, Austin Police Department.
Investigators say the driver of the truck was shot in the upper right part of his chest. The two assailants took off, leaving the victim and the delivery truck behind.
Perry says there is no evidence that carjackers are targeting delivery trucks or vehicles of any kind in Austin.
"These types of robberies have actually decreased over the year," he said.
Between March 1 2008 and March 31 2009, Austin had 67 carjackings. Between April 1 2009 and March 9 2010, there have been 37.
"There have been no other attempted carjackings of delivery vehicles or anything like that this is a random crime", Perry said.
