AUSTIN -- A two-vehicle crash involving an Austin police officer shut down a highway and left one person seriously injured Friday morning.

It happened after 9 a.m. at 9100 Research Boulevard between MoPac and Burnet Road in North Austin. Police say an Austin police officer's cruiser was hit by another car on Research.

Austin-Travis County EMS says the driver of that car, a 19-year-old man, was seriously injured. He was taken to University Medical Center Brackenridge with non-life threatening injuries.

Police say the officer was taken to a local hospital as a precautionary measure. He was treated and released.

The southbound lanes of Research were closed but reopened just before 10 a.m.
