AUSTIN -- Police have identified the man shot to death on the porch of his family's home in Southeast Austin.
Senior APD Officer Craig Smith says the victim’s father called 911 around 2:30 a.m. Friday. He told officers his son, Miguel Angel Contreras, 26, had been shot. He believed he was dead.
That was confirmed by EMS officials when they arrived on the scene.
Contreras' body was located on the front porch of a home on Meadow Crest near East Stassney Lane. APD homicide detectives are leading the investigation.
“[They’re] trying to get any lead that they can so they're going to talk to mom, dad and see what happened. See where he was today or why he was found deceased,” explained Officer Smith.
Smith says no one in the neighborhood called 911 reporting gun shots.
“If neighbors [saw] anything call 911 tell them, you know, if they heard a gunshot or whatever because they have nothing to go on right now,” said Smith.
“They'll start talking to friends. I'm sure they'll look through his cell phone, seeing where he was. That's the most important thing to find out: where he was, who he was with,” explained Officer Smith.
