AUSTIN -- An Austin police officer has been suspended after accidentally shooting a 12-gauge shotgun in June.

According to a City of Austin memo, Sergeant Mark Breckenridge was cleaning a shotgun in the parking lot of the East substation when the weapon accidentally fired.

The memo says Breckenridge was “conducting a function check on his city-issued 12-gauge shotgun,” when the gun went off.

Breckenridge was suspended for one day.
