AUSTIN -- According to Gov. Rick Perry's office, President Obama has declared a major disaster exists in Central Texas areas affected by Halloween floods and has ordered federal aid.
Last week Gov. Perry requested the presidential disaster declaration for counties still trying to recover from the floods.
“The approval of this declaration is welcome news to the residents of Travis, Hays and Caldwell counties,” Gov. Perry said. “This means that much-needed assistance is on its way to these communities, and Central Texans affected by the severe floods can begin rebuilding their lives.”
Perry's specific requests included:
- Individual assistance, including the Individual and Households Program, Other Needs Assistance, disaster unemployment assistance, disaster legal assistance, disaster case management and crisis counseling.
- Public assistance (all categories).
- Hazard Mitigation statewide.
Approval of the individual assistance request is still pending federal review.
The governor has also issued a state disaster proclamation for seven counties. To view the proclamation, go here.
