AUSTIN -- New Year's Eve is coming up and that means a lot of people buying fireworks to celebrate.

According to the Austin Fire Department, no fireworks are allowed within 5,000 feet (one mile) of city limits. Although sparklers, smoke bombs, snakes and snap-and-pops are perfectly fine.

If you get caught setting off fireworks within city limits, you will be fined up to $500.

It is also a felony crime if you do damage to either a person or a building with those fireworks.
