CEDAR PARK, Texas -- A new open air market in Cedar Park had its soft opening Sunday. The market featured handmade products ranging from food to crafts to art. It attracted interested shoppers who wanted to buy "local".
The market is located outdoors at the Cedar Park Center. The official name is, "The Austin Open Air Market." It's free to enter and parking is free as well.
Christina Johnson sold her colorful art at the market.
"It's hard to find a good place where local produce and artists to come together," Johnson said. "I think it's a great idea."
Eddie McLean came up with the idea for the market. He wants to make it a destination for families to spend time together. The market offers a petting zoo, pony rides and face painting.
Everything sold at the market is created or grown within 150 miles of Cedar Park. McLean got his idea from a market he visited growing up in California.
"What I was used to was a place where people would hang out and bring their families, so I decided to try and bring that to Cedar Park," McLean said.
Various items are for sale at the market including Moonshine Sweet Tea concentrate, Texas Sisters Country Signs, Christen's Gourmet Pralines and even a booth where you can get knives sharpened. There is homemade bread, olive oil, kettle corn and jewelry.
The market has its official opening next Sunday Feb. 12. The market will continue every Sunday after. It is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
