GEORGETOWN, Texas – A newly appointed judge took the oath of office this afternoon in Georgetown.
District Judge Billy Ray Stubblefield did the honors, swearing in Judge Stacey Mathews, while her mother held the bible.
Mathews replaces Judge Ken Anderson who resigned last month.
Anderson still faces a civil case from the state bar, over his handling of a murder case as a prosecutor in the 1980s.
“I think it's so important today for us to be here. Because it's a new day in Williamson County. It really is. And it's a new day in this court. And I'm so thankful to be here,” she said.
Mathews term will last until the next general election.
