ROUND ROCK, Texas -- A new six-lane road is open in Round Rock. Kenney Fort Blvd. travels 1.5 miles over Brushy Creek and under U.S. 79 in Round Rock, near the Union Pacific Railroad, Dell Diamond and Old Settlers Park.
The stretch connects drivers from Forest Creek Dr. to Joe Dimaggio. City and county officials celebrated the opening Wednesday. They say the $25-million project will relieve traffic congestion for drivers.
People who live nearby say the new road is a time-saver.
"Right now to go to any neighbors or friends that we have, just on the other side of Round Rock, we have to go around A. W. Grimes or Red Bud," explained Bret Ostendorf, who lives nearby. "It's 10 minutes or more fighting traffic when this one is straight. It will be quicker to see friends and we can ride bikes."
City leaders hope the road will also spur development on the east side of town. Eventually it will extend to the SH 45 toll road.
